Is cardio good for you?

I've been an avid exerciser for many years. I have a well rounded routine that includes cardio (endurance and burst), as well as weight lifting and stretching. However, a lot of people I know tend to stay away from cardio and I don't know why. Some say that it isn't good for you and some say it doesn't do anything for your workout. Sometimes I think it's just because people can't handle cardio, so they fabricate this notion that it does nothing or hurts you. Anyway, I've never run into problems, and I'm in better shape than most people I know (Arrogant much?) So, what is the truth here?
